Meet author Yuyi Morales and learn about her approach to creating inspirational children’s books. In 1994, Yuyi Morales left her home in Xalapa, Mexico, and came to the United States with her infant son, leaving behind everything she owned. Speaking no English, she found hope at a local library- and went on to a successful career writing and illustrating award-winning children’s books. Morales has written many picture books and nonfiction titles for children, including the New York Times bestselling “Dreamers,” the Big Read Lakeshore 2024 book selection. “Dreamers” is a picture book biography in which Morales tells her own story of immigrating to the United States and finding sanctuary and salvation at the local public library.
