September 2 - September 29

Join The Middle Read and Cultureworks for our September classes. REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR ALL EVENTS

Bugs in Our Backyard with Ava Kathryn
Mondays, Sept. 15-Sept. 29 // Grades 3-5 + a parent!
6:30-7:45 PM
In this family-friendly class, we’ll learn more about bugs and make art inspired by them. Together we’ll create bugs, explore our bugs’ best plant buddies, and learn what bugs can tell us about the health of our neighborhood. This class is intended for children and a guardian to learn and work together, so please be sure to include the name of the adult(s) who will be attending during registration.

DnD Campaign with Phil Quinn
Tuesdays, Sept. 2-Sept. 23 // Grades 6-8
3:30-5:30 PM
Whether you’re new to Dungeons & Dragons or you want to make new friends before your next campaign, this class is going to be a blast. The first week will be focused on worldbuilding and character development, then during weeks 2-4, we’ll dive into the game together!

Collage with Jaer Medina
Tuesdays, Sept. 2-Sept. 23 // Grades 8-12
3:30-5:30 PM
This mixed-media class explores collage through zinemaking, photography, and sculpture. Each session, we will look at various artists for inspiration before creating our collages. No prior experience is required!

Graffiti with Miguel Ayala
Wednesdays, Sept. 3-Sept. 24 // Grades 8-12
3:30-5:30
Learn how to draw and spray paint stylized letters with graffiti artist Miguel Ayala. We’ll experiment with various tips to achieve different effects and explore quick, expressive mark making, as well as learn how to make stencils for fill patterns and images.

Bookish with Miranda Craig
Wednesdays, Sept. 3-Sept. 24 // Grades 6-12
3:30-5:30 PM
Come get cozy with us as we read and make art inspired by books! We’re partnering with the Lakeshore Big Read to offer this class exploring the Middle Read book, A Wish in the Dark by Christina Soontornvat. This Newbery Award book follows Pong, born in Namwon Prison, who escapes to find that freedom is just as elusive outside, where the wealthy bask in light while the poor remain in darkness. Hunted by Nok, the warden’s determined daughter, Pong discovers harsh truths about justice and power in the Thai-inspired city of Chattana. This fast-paced adventure reimagines Les Misérables. We’ll have free copies for you on the first day of class, but if you’re like us and you read it in 2 days, you can bring another book to enjoy during the first part of class.

Open Studio with CultureWorks Staff
Thursdays, Sept. 4-Sept. 25 // Grades 8-12
3:30-5:30 PM
Printmaking, ceramics, iPads, and more! Learn new skills or continue to develop your favorites. In this 4-week class, you pursue whatever medium you’d like, with access to the full studio and instructors skilled in collage, fiber arts, ceramics, photography, and printmaking. Let your creativity run wild!

P.S. Some people have been sure that they registered but forgot to click the final button or two. If you don’t get a confirmation email, it means that you did not finish registering for class.

If you need a hand, feel free to call 616-377-8466, and we would be happy to help!
